About The Position

This job processes orders and delivers medications to designated areas under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures. Refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication orders, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy; enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary; reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system; identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.e. allergies, height, weight) when needed; accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures; maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas; performs related clerical duties including typing, answering phone, filing and greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for the Board of Pharmacy Technician Certification in the state of practice, being registered with the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice, and in possession of a work permit (if the PTCB test has not been taken and passed, the technician must apply for the next available exam)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to patients.
  • Fills medication orders, charges/credits all medication, stocks, delivers, and inspects assigned areas.
  • Prepares IV admixtures and other extemporaneous compounds.
  • Maintains required certification and knowledge in order to perform functions optimally and within regulation requirements.
  • Enters pharmacy orders.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
