About The Position

Under the supervision of the pharmacist-in-charge, the pharmacy technician will process prescriptions for outpatient dispensing and mail out shipping, and repackage medications for distribution to remote health center sites. The technician will greet internal and external customers via phone and in person, providing excellent customer service. They will monitor inventory, maintain a clean and organized pharmacy, and travel occasionally for site reviews, training, and education. The technician will complete all training and education required to maintain their state license and PTCB national certification.

Requirements

  • Nevada State Pharmaceutical Technician License required
  • If not PTCB certified on date of hire, will take the PTCB exam within 6 months and pass within 10 months.
  • Ability to type min of 30 words per minute
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA
  • Ability to read prescriptions and drug labels, including fine print
  • Ability to balance cash register and calculate figures and amounts, such as drug prices, dosages and day’s supply
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as sliding fees, discounts, proportions and percentages
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions, both verbal and written
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively and sensitively to special population groups as defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, gender, etc.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively and positively with associates and providers
  • Ability to travel occasionally to visit remote sites and to attend off-site training and education.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock levels, anticipating demand, ordering sufficient amounts, verifying receipt of stock, removing outdated drugs, and returning excess stock.
  • Monitors stock prices to ensure the pharmacy receives the best price, returns stock due to higher prices when needed, and maintains/updates drug cost in pharmacy software.
  • Protects customers by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Prepares prescription orders for the pharmacist to dispense by reading prescriptions, typing labels, calculating quantities, and determining prescription and drug expiration dates.
  • Counts prescription medications, fills prescriptions, and types and attaches medication labels.
  • Processes clinic orders by typing packing lists, packing medications, and shipping to the remote health center site.
  • Processes mail out prescriptions, packing medications and shipping to the indicated address.
  • Operates the point of sale system, including cash register, credit card machine, and prescription will call system.
  • Troubleshoots pharmacy software, printer, robot, and any other equipment, including calls to vendor technical support.
  • Assists off-site health center staff with issues when needed.
  • Maintains files for purchase orders, packing lists, clinic drug orders, prescriptions, etc., in accordance with Board of Pharmacy and 340B requirements.
  • Performs drug inventory audits.
  • Purchases supplies and maintains appropriate levels of supplies.
  • Calculates drug prices by verifying acquisition cost and adding dispensing fees for the appropriate payer group.
  • Cleans pharmacy shelves and workstations and organizes supplies, files, and pharmaceutical inventory.
  • Monitors refrigerator and room temperatures and understands vaccine management procedures.
  • Utilizes state prescription monitoring program.
  • Screens all new prescriptions for 340B eligibility.
  • Maintains updated patient profile, including allergies, demographics, and payer group.
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information.
  • Contributes to team effort by assisting coworkers when needed.
  • Provides training and support for medical assistants and dispensing techs both on-site and at remote locations.
  • Assists pharmacist in performing dispensary site reviews and pharmaceutical inventory management training, which requires travel to remote sites.
  • Completes all education and training as required by the Board of Pharmacy, CMS, and 340B.
  • Delivers quality customer service to patients, responding to inquiries, questions, or requests, and referring them to the pharmacist for medical information.
  • Greets customers in person and by phone; answers questions and receives requests, referring inquiries to the pharmacist as necessary.
  • Sets an example of exemplary customer service for both internal and external customers.
  • Ensures work environment is clean and organized during operational hours.
  • Provides customers with general knowledge of services offered by NVHC.
  • Supports pharmacy departmental and organizational goals and mission.
  • Maintains a healthy pharmacy team environment.
  • Constantly alerts for ways to improve customer service, increase productivity, and conserve resources, communicating ideas to supervisor.
