About The Position

To provide pharmaceutical services in accordance with federal, state, local standards and the policies and procedures of the Pharmacy department of the Pediatric Center. You will assist the Director of Pharmacy in providing quality pharmacy services to all the residents of the Pediatric Center. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • The Pharmacy Technician must have successfully completed a New York State approved pharmacy technician course.
  • CPhT- Certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • Current license as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in NYS.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or long-term care institution as a pharmacy technician
  • Experience putting patient orders into computer.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (35) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Treat every resident, family member, and co-worker with dignity, respect, and courtesy.
  • Fills prescriptions to be checked by a pharmacist.
  • Profiles patient orders to computer system under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Prints accurate physicians’ order sheets and medication administration records.
  • Assists in reconciliation of medications.
  • Delivers medications to the neighborhoods.
  • Properly stores medications, chemicals and biologicals.
  • Assists Director in the ordering of medications, chemicals and biologicals.
  • Assists in the maintenance of inventory by removing expired medications and rotating stock.
  • Inspects nursing units and reports problems to Pharmacy Director.
  • Packages medication for use on the nursing units.
  • Daily rounds to retrieve refill requests and submit to allow tracking of prescription requests.
  • Delivers medications to the nursing units.
  • Assists in reconciliation of medications.
  • Participates in department quality improvement activities as indicated.
  • Compounds medications using special formulations in pharmacy compounding book and keeps records of compounded prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Replenishes floor stock medications for nursing units and other departments.
  • Assists in billing of medications and obtain prior authorizations for medications as needed for reimbursement.
  • Manages re-write schedule and distributed to appropriate staff
  • Must have at least 20 hours of continuing education completed every 2 years. At least 6 of those credits must be for law, 2 for patient safety, and 2 for medication errors.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the pharmacy’s and ESC Children Center’s policies and procedures.
  • Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.
