About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician in Training supports pharmacists and lead technicians in delivering safe, high-quality pharmaceutical care. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in medication distribution, sterile and non-sterile compounding, inventory management, and administrative support. Once accepted, trainees must register with the Board of Pharmacy and may perform most pharmacy technician functions under direct supervision. The ASHP-accredited Technician Training Program is a full-time, 16-week program combining online computer-based learning modules, in-person simulations, and hands-on experiential training across multiple pharmacy settings. Trainees are prepared for a variety of pharmacy roles and must work every third weekend during the program. The specific application is for the January 11, 2027 cohort. Classes begin approximately every 8–12 weeks, and application reviews, interviews, and offers are made on a first-come, first-served basis. The program requires flexibility for rotating training experiences. Eight-hour shifts may start between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. or end no later than 7:45 p.m. Most Carilion pharmacies may serve as training sites, with the majority located at or near Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Limited travel to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center may be an opportunity.
