About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Full-time Inpatient Pharmacy Technician in Training at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. This role involves performing care delivery and dispensing under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. The technician will fill and deliver medications, ensure adequate supplies are available, triage and escalate issues outside their scope, use appropriate systems for patient information, maintain quality assurance, and operate pharmacy equipment appropriately. Enrollment in an approved pharmacy technician training program or Guild Program and certification as a technician-in-training within 30 days of hire is required. The position is located at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a 525-bed tertiary care facility and the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School. It is home to the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads, and specializes in various medical fields including heart and vascular, neurosciences, oncology, and women's health.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Enrollment in an approved pharmacy technician training program or Guild Program
  • Certification as a technician-in-training within 30 days of hire in the state of practice is required
  • Must register as a pharmacy technician-in-training in the state of practice

Responsibilities

  • Performs care delivery and dispensing under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.

  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
