The Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Compounding supports the preparation of infusion medications for home delivery patients as part of the Home Delivery pharmacy team. This role is primarily focused on sterile compounding within the cleanroom environment, rotating between antibiotic and TPN hoods to prepare specialized infusion therapies. Working in a highly controlled setting, this caregiver plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, safe, and timely preparation of compounded medications for patients receiving care at home. A caregiver in this role will work Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts from 11:00am to 7:30pm, with a weekend rotation every 7–8 weeks. Holiday coverage is rotational (8:30am. to 5:00pm), typically two per year (one winter, one summer). On-call responsibilities align with the scheduled weekend, covering Tuesday to Friday prior from 7:30pm to 7:00am, with on-call pay provided. No floating is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
  • Must hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.
  • A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
