About The Position
The Pharmacy Technician Specialist I at Atrium Health Specialty Pharmacy Service is a full-time position responsible for completing area-specific work according to standard processes and procedures, adhering to policies. This role serves as an expert with equipment and technology in a specialized area, troubleshooting technical issues as they arise. The specialist ensures accurate and timely documentation, supports communication and coordination with patients and care teams, and identifies quality improvement opportunities to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care. They also provide input for operational changes, advancements, and standardization, and participate in specialized work teams. Maintaining compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, keeping current with field changes, and adopting best practices are key. The role involves contributing to the education of others, supporting pharmacy department initiatives, and accepting assignments from other pharmacy roles when workload dictates.
Requirements
- Registration/Licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements
- Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Health Career Association (ExCPT)
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- For technicians in NC with validating technician responsibilities- an Associate’s Degree in Pharmacy Technology is required
- Typically requires 3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background.
- Must be computer savvy, and have a drive to work in a high volume / high demand department with great critical thinking skills.
- Must be able to work well independently and well in a team environment.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Basic math skills
- Organizational skills and analytical ability to prepare reports and reconcile reports correctly
- Ability to evaluate and measure customer needs – set clear standards to ensure needs are met
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Self-discipline and attention to detail
- Working PC knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), Internet, and general Call Center Systems
Nice To Haves
- At least 2 years of retail pharmacy experience preferred
- General knowledge around insurance trouble shooting, prior authorizations, and copay assistance.
- Strong background in medical terminology preferred
- Associate or bachelor's degree

- Maintains updated knowledge and skills and contributes to the education of others
- Contributes positively to execution of pharmacy department initiatives
- Accepts assignments of tasks from other pharmacy teammate roles when workload dictates
