About The Position

This role is for a Pharmacy Technician Specialist I within Specialty Pharmacy Services at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The position is full-time, working Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. A $6,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates. The specialist will be responsible for completing area-specific work according to standard processes and policies, serving as an expert with equipment and technology in their specialized area, and problem-solving technical issues. They will ensure accurate and timely documentation, support communication with patients and care teams, identify quality improvement opportunities, and provide input for operational changes. The role also involves participating in specialized work teams, complying with legal and regulatory standards, staying current with field changes, and contributing to the education of others. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety, as accurate medication lists are critical for preventing errors and ensuring optimal care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • PTCB/NHA technician certification (CPhT) required.
  • North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration as a pharmacy technician required within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a formal technician training program preferred.
  • One-year previous pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field preferred.
  • Typically requires 1-3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background.

Responsibilities

  • Completes area-specific work as outlined by standard processes, procedures and adherent to policies
  • Serves as an expert with equipment and technology in specialized area
  • Problem solves technical issues in the specialized area as they arise
  • Ensures documents and records are accurate and completed in a timely fashion
  • Supports methods of communication and coordination with patients and care team
  • Identifies quality improvement opportunities based on specialized skill set to ensure safe, effective, and efficient services and patient care
  • Provides input to and supports implementation of operational changes, advancements, and site and system standardization
  • Participates in site or system specialized work teams, committees, and councils, as applicable
  • Complies with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Keeps current with changes in the specialized field and collaborates with department leadership to adopt best practices
  • Maintains updated knowledge and skills and contributes to the education of others
  • Contributes positively to execution of pharmacy department initiatives
  • Accepts assignments of tasks from other pharmacy teammate roles when workload dictates
