About The Position

The Lead Pharmacy Technician plays a key leadership role in supporting pharmacy operations across all Fetter pharmacies. Working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, this position combines hands-on pharmacy technician responsibilities with leadership, training, quality oversight, and operational support. The Lead Pharmacy Technician serves as a mentor and resource for pharmacy technicians and cashiers, helping to standardize workflows, promote regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of excellence in patient care. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by improving pharmacy operations, supporting staff development, and ensuring patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Use a computer and keyboard for prolonged periods, including typing and documentation.
  • Read printed and electronic materials and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, or stoop while performing job duties.
  • Lift, carry, or move supplies and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Maintain visual acuity for close work, including reading labels, medication packaging, and computer screens.
  • Work primarily in a pharmacy and clinical healthcare setting.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases, blood, and other bodily fluids while following established infection control and safety protocols.
  • Travel between Fetter pharmacy locations and attend meetings as needed.
  • Occasionally work evenings or weekends to support operational needs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with patients, providers, and team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or lead pharmacy technician experience.
  • Experience training, onboarding, or mentoring pharmacy technicians or other support staff.
  • Experience working in a multi-site or ambulatory care pharmacy environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary mentor and resource for pharmacy technicians and cashiers.
  • Coordinate onboarding and training for new team members while supporting the continued development of existing staff.
  • Conduct competency assessments and provide coaching to promote consistent, high-quality performance.
  • Assist with scheduling, PTO approvals, and daily workflow coordination for pharmacy technicians.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment.
  • Perform all duties of a certified pharmacy technician, including: Processing and preparing prescriptions, Entering prescription information into pharmacy software, Utilizing electronic medical records (EMR), Assisting pharmacists with prescription fulfillment and medication distribution, Maintaining accurate documentation and records.
  • Provide staffing support at all Fetter pharmacy locations as operational needs require.
  • Promote compliance with departmental policies, state and federal regulations, and pharmacy best practices.
  • Monitor workflow quality and assist with competency reviews to maintain high standards of patient safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support pharmacy audits and compliance activities.
  • Assist in preparing quality and performance reports for leadership and committees.
  • Monitor medication inventory and remove expired products.
  • Coordinate routine inventory cycle counts across pharmacy locations.
  • Assist with medication ordering and inventory control to ensure appropriate stock levels while minimizing waste.
  • Support accurate medication profile maintenance and prescription transfers when appropriate.
  • Partner with pharmacy leadership to develop, implement, and maintain standardized pharmacy procedures across all locations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, patient experience, and operational consistency.
  • Serve as a liaison between pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, providers, and clinical staff to facilitate effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while ensuring accurate prescription processing and medication distribution.
  • Maintain competency in serving patients across all age groups and diverse populations.

  • Effectively utilize pharmacy management systems, electronic health records, and other technology platforms.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to training, quality improvement, compliance, and inventory activities.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pharmacist-in-Charge, Lead Pharmacist-in-Charge, Director of Clinical Services/Pharmacy Director, Chief Medical Officer, or Chief Executive Officer.
