About The Position

The inpatient pharmacy technician supports pharmacists in providing pharmacy services. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient role is based in the basement pharmacy at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, supporting a 90-bed hospital that operates as a smaller-volume inpatient setting with a lean, highly collaborative team. The pharmacy team includes approximately eight pharmacy technicians and sixteen pharmacists who support overall medication operations across service areas including the emergency department, outpatient infusion, ICU, and step-down units. Caregivers in this role rotate through multiple responsibilities, including operating the manual carousel, supporting sterile compounding (both hazardous and non-hazardous), managing automated dispensing cabinets such as Pyxis, and assisting with medication distribution throughout the hospital. Technicians are cross-trained across all operational areas, creating a dynamic role that offers broad inpatient pharmacy experience while supporting safe, efficient medication delivery for patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
  • Must hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.
  • A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role.
