About The Position

This position functions to support all aspects of medication preparation and distribution services at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Duties include medication preparation and packaging; sterile and non-sterile compounding; inventory management; documentation; maintenance of medication storage and security standards; and other duties as permitted by Ohio Board of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician I assists pharmacists in ensuring accurate medication dispensing and regulatory compliance in accordance with Ohio Board of Pharmacy rules, state and federal regulations, USP standards as applicable, and institutional policies. This role supports both patient care and research protocols while promoting a safe and efficient medication-use system. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served, including completing any mandatory education requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • Registered or eligible for pharmacy technician registration in Ohio.
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainees must submit all required documentation to the Ohio Board of Pharmacy at least 10 business days before start date.
  • Maintain Registered Pharmacy Technician status with Ohio Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician Trainees must obtain Registered Pharmacy Technician status within 1.5 years of hire.
  • Continues to meet departmental competency requirements and pharmacy standards of employee conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant preparation and distribution of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Providing high-quality, patient-centered technical support services to ensure accurate medication preparation, packaging, and inventory control.
  • Collaborating with pharmacists and other pharmacy technicians to maintain regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and service excellence across assigned practice areas.
  • Maintaining active registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and fulfilling all continuing education and competency requirements.
  • Completing the OSUWMC employer-based training program within 365 days of hire if registered as an Ohio Board of Pharmacy Technician Trainee, followed by updating registration to Registered Pharmacy Technician status.
  • Demonstrating professional conduct aligned with hospital and departmental mission, vision, and values.
  • Assisting pharmacists in ensuring accurate medication dispensing and regulatory compliance in accordance with Ohio Board of Pharmacy rules, state and federal regulations, USP standards as applicable, and institutional policies.
