About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Full-time Pharmacy Technician II for our Central Medication Refill Program. This role is remote and requires the candidate to reside in Virginia. The Pharmacy Tech II performs specialized pharmacy practice responsibilities under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Key duties include triaging, managing, and processing medication refill requests accurately and within established turnaround times to ensure continuity of patient care. The role involves performing chart reviews to identify and communicate discrepancies or failed protocols, escalating issues outside the technician scope, and maintaining quality assurance according to departmental standards and legal requirements. Effective communication and collaboration with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, providers, and care team members in an electronic workflow environment are essential. This position requires advanced technical skills, ownership of medication refill workflows, strong attention to detail, organization, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently. Participation in onboarding and training of new employees is also expected. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
  • CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Required)
  • 2 Years Pharmacy Experience (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Triages, manages, and processes incoming medication refill requests from pharmacies, patients, and providers accurately and within established turnaround times to support continuity of patient care.
  • Provides pharmacists and providers with relevant clinical and administrative information by performing accurate and efficient chart reviews while identifying, documenting, and communicating discrepancies or failed protocols requiring escalation.
  • Triages and escalates questions, clinical concerns, or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the appropriate pharmacist, provider, or care team member.
  • Maintains quality assurance according to departmental standards, legal requirements, and medication refill program expectations.
  • Communicates effectively and collaborates with fellow pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, providers, and interdisciplinary care team members in a primarily electronic workflow environment.
  • Demonstrates advanced technical skills, ownership of medication refill workflows, strong attention to detail, organization, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently within defined centralized pharmacy technician responsibilities.
  • Participates in onboarding, training, and support of new employees as assigned.
