This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role involves completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additionally, they may complete and document medication admission histories, seek additional duties when work is complete, and support area leaders. The role may also involve participating in quality improvement initiatives, assisting in training other technicians, and supporting goals and work assignments. Obtaining and recording initial patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering are also key functions. Competence in third-party billing functions is required, along with the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care. In some cases, the technician may obtain immunization certification and administer immunizations under pharmacist supervision, and operate a vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
