This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. Responsibilities also include assisting with medication distribution, screening phone calls, managing pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The technician will complete necessary documentation for controlled substances, perform nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, and inspect medication storage areas. They will also complete and document medication admission histories, seek additional duties when work is complete, and may participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in training other technicians. The role supports area leaders, obtains and records patient information, performs data entry, handles cashiering, and develops competence in third-party billing. The technician must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care skills and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, they may be responsible for operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
