This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role involves completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards where applicable, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additionally, they may complete and document medication admission histories, seek additional duties when work is complete, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. The technician supports area leaders, handles patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. They develop competence in third-party billing functions and must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of patients served. In some cases, they may obtain immunization certification and perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. The role may also involve operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies between pharmacy locations.
