This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role may involve performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, where applicable. Additionally, the technician inspects medication storage areas, completes documentation for controlled substances, and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. The position supports area leaders, contributes to quality improvement initiatives, and may assist in training other technicians. Obtaining and recording initial patient demographic and other required information, data entry into the pharmacy system, and third-party billing functions are also key aspects of the role. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served.
