This full-time Pharmacy Technician I position at Carolinas Medical Center involves assisting licensed pharmacists with technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution. The role includes accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. Responsibilities also encompass medication distribution tasks, screening phone calls, assisting with daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The technician will complete documentation for controlled substances, perform nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, and inspect medication storage areas. Additional duties may include completing medication admission histories, seeking additional tasks when work is complete, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and potentially assisting in training other pharmacy technicians. The role also involves obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The technician must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care knowledge and skills and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. The position may require operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle for medication and supply delivery.
