This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and handle daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Depending on the facility, responsibilities may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding, performing sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role also involves seeking additional duties when required work is done and supporting area leaders. May participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in training other pharmacy technicians. The role includes obtaining and recording initial patient demographic and other required information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The role requires the ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision. Additionally, the role may involve operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and essential medical supplies.
