This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and handle daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role involves performing nonsterile compounding and potentially sterile IV admixture following proper standards and aseptic technique. Additionally, the technician inspects medication storage areas, completes documentation for controlled substances, and may assist in training other technicians. They support area leaders, perform data entry for record keeping, insurance verification, and label generation, and may be involved in third-party billing functions. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and may involve obtaining immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. A key responsibility includes operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and medical supplies as needed.
