The Pharmacy Technician I assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances, and assisting with medication distribution tasks. The technician will also screen phone calls, manage pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and conduct outdate checks. Responsibilities include documentation for controlled substances, nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture (where applicable), and inspecting medication storage areas. The role also involves completing medication admission histories, seeking additional duties as needed, and potentially participating in quality improvement initiatives and training. The technician will abide by all organizational policies and procedures, support area leaders, and handle tasks such as patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Developing competence in third-party billing functions is also a key aspect. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care and may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision. Additionally, the role may require operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle for deliveries.
