The Pharmacy Technician I assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances, and assisting with medication distribution tasks. The technician will also screen phone calls, assist with pharmacy procurement and inventory control, and perform documentation for controlled substances. Depending on the entity, responsibilities may include nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, completing medication admission histories, and participating in quality improvement initiatives or training other technicians. The role also involves data entry, insurance verification, cashiering, and potentially developing competence in third-party billing functions. The technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, the role may require operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
