This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and handle daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The role may involve performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and proper aseptic technique, respectively. Additionally, the technician inspects medication storage areas, completes documentation for controlled substances, and may assist in training other technicians. The position supports area leaders, obtains and records patient information for the pharmacy system, and may be involved in third-party billing functions. Competence in providing age-appropriate patient care is essential, and the role may include obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision. The technician may also operate a vehicle to deliver medications and supplies between pharmacy locations.
