The Pharmacy Technician I assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The technician will also assist with medication distribution, screen phone calls, manage pharmacy procurement and inventory, and perform documentation for controlled substances. Additional duties may include nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role may also involve participating in quality improvement initiatives, assisting in training other technicians, and supporting area leaders. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of patients served and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. A key responsibility includes operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and medical supplies.
