The Pharmacy Technician I assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances, and assisting with medication distribution tasks. The technician will also screen phone calls, assist with pharmacy procurement and inventory control, and complete necessary documentation for controlled substances. Responsibilities include performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and proper aseptic technique, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role also involves seeking additional duties, potentially participating in quality improvement initiatives, assisting in training other technicians, and abiding by all organizational policies and procedures. Additional duties include data entry for record keeping, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of patients served and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. A unique aspect of this role involves operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and essential medical supplies.
