This role assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The position involves completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, and inspecting medication storage areas. Additional duties may include completing medication admission histories, seeking additional tasks when work is complete, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and potentially assisting in training other pharmacy technicians. The role supports area leaders, handles patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of patients served and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. A key responsibility includes operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and medical supplies.
