This position assists a licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Depending on the entity, responsibilities may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding, and performing sterile IV admixture using aseptic technique. The role also involves inspecting medication storage areas, completing medication admission histories, and seeking additional duties when primary work is completed. Participation in quality improvement initiatives and assisting in training other technicians are also potential aspects of the role. The position supports area leaders, handles patient demographic and insurance information, performs data entry, and may be involved in third-party billing functions. Competence in providing age-appropriate patient care is essential. Additionally, the role may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision, and operating a motor vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
