About The Position

This position involves reviewing and preparing medications for dispensing, maintaining medication stock levels, providing customer service, performing documentation, and offering administrative support to the Pharmacy department. The role requires adherence to regulatory guidelines and USP standards for medication preparation and storage.

Requirements

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Knowledge of USP guidelines for sterile aseptic technique and medication preparation.
Familiarity with Iowa State Board of Pharmacy and Drug Enforcement Agency regulations.
Understanding of FDA regulations for T3 statements.
Ability to maintain and store records appropriately.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
Proficiency in triaging questions and referring to the appropriate individual.
Ability to maintain and audit billed transactions.
Experience with inputting charges for medications.
Familiarity with the 340B Program, including NDC Crosswalk and patient visit audits.

Nice To Haves

Experience with automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis).
Experience with compounding medications.
Knowledge of Macrohelix software.

Responsibilities

Review and prepare medications for pharmacist approval, ensuring correct dosage, form, strength, and quantity.
Prepare unit dose medications with bar code labels for automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis).
Label medications according to regulatory guidelines prior to pharmacist verification.
Prepare intravenous (IV) medications using sterile aseptic technique.
Mix pharmaceutical preparations, fill bottles with tablets and capsules, and create labels.
Maintain appropriate medication stock levels in the pharmacy and patient care areas.
Order supplies and medications through the pharmacy wholesaler and other suppliers.
Monitor drugs to establish appropriate stock levels and restock supplies and medications.
Deliver medications to ancillary departments upon request.
Monitor pharmaceutical inventory and medication outdates in various locations.
Keep the formulary up to date with current stock.
Triage customer service inquiries and demonstrate excellent customer service.
Determine the level of expertise required to address patient/health provider needs and refer accordingly.
Consult with pharmacists on medication questions and relay information to patients/providers.
Perform and maintain documentation for unit dose preparations, compounded preparations, and medications dispensed to Pyxis.
Maintain and store all pharmacy records according to regulatory requirements.
Handle storage of CIII-CV records, T3 statements, and invoices in accordance with the law.
Provide administrative support, including initiating phone calls, screening visitors/calls, and scheduling appointments.
Clean equipment according to prescribed methods.
Maintain and audit billed transactions for inpatient and outpatient medications.
Input charges for medications from ancillary departments.
Maintain NDC Crosswalk and audit patient visits for the 340B Program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
