About The Position

This role involves ordering pharmaceuticals and IV supplies, monitoring inventory levels to meet budgetary goals, and adjusting inventory in response to external disasters. The position requires determining product selection based on various factors including contract pricing, availability, and patient safety. It also includes checking orders against invoices, utilizing computer systems for purchase orders, and employing barcoding, online ordering, and automation to improve productivity and safety. When a Prime Vendor is not used, the best contractual pricing, delivery, and terms must be employed for specific items like coagulation factors, albumin, IVIG, and chemotherapy. The role also entails monitoring medication allocations and shortages to maintain optimal inventory. Additionally, it involves distributing inventory throughout the hospital, accurately filling requisitions for ancillary areas, managing controlled substances according to regulations, and monitoring PAR levels for high-cost medications. Processing invoices, rebates, credits, and returns promptly, determining alternate product sources, and documenting loaned/borrowed activities are also key responsibilities. The role requires ensuring charge codes are in place for new products before distribution and communicating with vendors to resolve issues and prevent shortages. Maintaining accurate paperwork for charity and mission organizations, managing outdated pharmaceuticals, adhering to chemotherapy and hazardous substance policies, and ensuring patient confidentiality are also part of the job. Finally, the role includes training technicians, students, and interns under the direction of a registered pharmacist, and reporting problems in a timely manner.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified or Registered Pharmacy Tech.
Previous Buyer experience.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Must be able to type at least 30wpm.

Responsibilities

Ordering pharmaceuticals and IV supplies.
Monitoring inventory levels to achieve budgetary goals.

Checking orders against corresponding invoices for accuracy.
Placing purchase orders using a computer when applicable.
Utilizing barcoding, on-line ordering, and automation to enhance productivity and safety.
Employing the best contractual pricing, delivery, and terms when Prime Vendor is not used.
Monitoring allocation and shortages of medication to ensure optimal inventory.
Delivering pharmaceuticals and replacing pharmacy stock in a timely manner.
Filling requisitions accurately for ancillary areas with recommended stock levels observed.
Inputting necessary information into the inventory financial system for account crediting/debiting.
Ordering and managing controlled substances in adherence to department, State, and DEA regulations.
Monitoring PAR LEVELS for changes in usage, with emphasis on high-cost medications.
Forwarding invoices and necessary paperwork to the Accounting Department promptly.
Processing rebates, credits, and returns promptly and completely.
Determining alternate sources of product and documenting loaned and borrowed activity.
Monitoring the arrival of new products to ensure charge codes are in effect prior to distribution.
Communicating with vendors and wholesalers to correct problems and avert shortages.
Maintaining accurate invoices and paperwork for charity and mission organizations.
Storing outdated pharmaceuticals separately until return or disposal.
Strictly adhering to chemotherapy and hazardous substance policy and procedures.
Conducting surveillance of stock to pull all outdated products.
Following Hospital policies on patient confidentiality.
Training technicians, pharmacy students, and pharmacy interns under the direction of a registered pharmacist.
Reporting problems in a timely and constructive manner.
