Provides distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the registered pharmacist in the ambulatory/outpatient setting. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of $2,500. The Pharmacy Technician – Ambulatory supports a first-floor outpatient pharmacy processing approximately 300 prescriptions per day in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities include prescription preparation, Pyxis support, narcotic filling and count verification, and assisting with medication delivery to psychiatric floors, patient rooms, and the discharge lounge. Technicians also coordinate prescription pickup with nursing units, escalate issues as needed, and ensure medications are prepared accurately before pharmacist review. This role is part of a supportive department where teamwork and shared accountability are central to daily operations. A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday on rotating weekly shifts of 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. There are no on-call or holiday requirements. Weekend coverage is required approximately every 3–4 months at JJ North Pharmacy, with caregivers able to volunteer for preferred shift options, and some shifts may be voluntarily picked up by other team members.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Can perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).
  • A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the pharmacist in an ambulatory/outpatient setting.
  • Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients.
  • Maintain inventory for the outpatient pharmacy.
  • Assist with extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions and bulk compounding of prescriptions and over the counter items.
  • Operate the point-of-sale cash register system.
  • Monitor and act on reorder points, restock prescription and non-prescription area and remove expiring products.
  • Provide multi-pharmacy support in assigned areas as needed.
