About The Position

This position is for a Pharmacy Technician in Ambulatory Care, working as part of a Float Team with casual hours. The role involves supporting pharmacy operations across different locations. There are three levels described: Level I (On The Job Training), Level II, and Level III, each with specific educational, experience, and certification requirements. The position requires adherence to state registration and certification standards, ongoing continuing education, and license renewal. The role may involve day/eve rotation and requires registration in both Minnesota and Wisconsin for float and casual positions, as well as staff in Superior, Wisconsin. Wisconsin locations may accept a 'pending' application for registration.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have graduated from high school or attained high school graduation equivalent (e.g. GED) for registration.
  • State registration in the state in which they will be working is required before hire.
  • For Level II: Minimum of 1040 hours of pharmacy technician experience.
  • For Level II: Completion of Pharmacy Department's Orientation AND one of the following Essentia Pharmacy Department training programs within 6 months of hire: Core Sterile Compounding Training Program, Core Prescription Billing and Synchronization Training Program.
  • For Level III: Minimum of 2080 hours of pharmacy technician experience.
  • For Level III: Experience (within the past year) with Tier III qualifying work.
  • For Level III: Completion of required certification or Pharmacy Department’s Training Program for Tier III requirements within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Must maintain registration(s) (immediately) and certification(s) (post one year of employment for Level I, post two years of employment for Level III) for the duration of employment.
  • Ongoing continuing education and license renewal as required by the state's Board of Pharmacy.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a board-approved technician training program.
  • Completion of the Essentia Health employer-based technician training program.
  • Continuous registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist Intern.
  • Currently enrolled as a Pharmacy student in an accredited Pharm.D. program.
  • For North Dakota locations only, progressing toward acceptance into a Doctor of Pharmacy program.
  • Possess a current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Responsibilities

  • Support pharmacy operations across different locations as part of a Float Team.
  • Maintain continuous registration as a pharmacy technician with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
  • Complete board-approved technician training programs or Essentia Health employer-based training programs within specified timeframes.
  • Obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from PTCB or NHA within specified timeframes.
  • Maintain state registration(s) and certification(s) for the duration of employment.
  • Complete ongoing continuing education and license renewal as required by the state's Board of Pharmacy.
  • Complete Pharmacy Department's Orientation.
  • Complete Essentia Pharmacy Department training programs such as Core Sterile Compounding Training Program and Core Prescription Billing and Synchronization Training Program.
  • Gain experience with Tier III qualifying work.
  • Complete required certification or Pharmacy Department’s Training Program for Tier III requirements.
