About The Position

Performs technical (non-judgmental) functions of drug preparation, drug distribution and drug charge control of inpatients, outpatients and associates in accordance with established standards set forth by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. Should be familiar with the essential functions relating to drug purchasing and inventory control and the usual technician functions associated with institutional drug distribution systems. This will include but not be limited to maintaining that all medications and supplies are in-date and stored per the manufacturer’s recommendations in a clean and orderly manner. Should assist the Pharmacist in ordering and receiving all IV fluids and supplies from Materials Management. Will complete and document all cleanings of the IV suite and hoods per USP 797 Guidelines and institution’s policies. Should be familiar with the essential technician functions associated with the dispensing of prescriptions for associates. Strictly complies with all HIPAA laws and guidelines. All other duties as outlined and/or allowed by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy. Strictly abides by the legal requirement that all dispensing and/or compounding of medications by a Pharmacy Technician must be checked by a Pharmacist.

Requirements

  • A high school education, equivalent, or advanced training with competency in basic mathematic skills in use of the metric system.
  • An Arkansas Pharmacy Technician Licensure.
  • Must be licensed and meet all requirements set forth by the State Health Department as well as the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Mathematical proficiency required to accurately and efficiently complete calculations required for the usual dosage determinations and solutions preparation.
  • Computer skills.
  • Basic record keeping skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge and understanding of the healthcare institution and its pharmacy department.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of his/her position, including standards of ethics governing pharmacy practice.
  • Working knowledge of drug dosages, rules of administration and dosage forms.
  • Knowledge of the procedures and operations relating to the packaging and labeling of drug products.
  • Knowledge of the procedures and operations relating to aseptic compounding and parenteral admixture operations.
  • Numerical ability to detect errors and accuracy in compiling records and calculating charges.
  • Working knowledge of the pharmaceutical medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing, dispensing and charting of medications in the institution.
  • Lifting of up to forty pounds.
  • Walking, standing, bending, and pushing of carts.
  • Considerable amount of mental effort and concentration is required and varies from day to day with workload.
  • Must be able to check own work.
  • Must be able to adjust speed of work as the need requires.
  • Subject to regular interruptions by nursing personnel, pharmacists and other technical personnel.

  • Pharmacy technician experiences is preferred.
