About The Position

Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior. The Pharmacy Technician II performs a variety of duties and technical tasks structured to assist the pharmacist, patients, and other healthcare providers. Pharmacy Tech II must have 3+ years of service within Frederick Health or a combination of Frederick Health and Trivergent Health Alliance. In order to maintain Pharmacy Tech II status, you will have to show competency in the minimum qualifications per job description. These tasks are designed to support the medication distribution system for hospital patients.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of service within Frederick Health or a combination of Frederick Health and Trivergent Health Alliance.
  • Must show competency in the minimum qualifications per job description.
  • Basic computer/keyboard skills (including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and a good understanding of medical terminology are required.
  • Must be able to participate in all aspects of drug distribution, communicate with other hospital employees, and prioritize work based on acuity/need.
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Registered Maryland Board of Pharmacy Technician is required.
  • Must be trained and actively working in a minimum of 3 areas of practice.
  • Demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups: Neonate (0 thru 30 days), Infant (31 thru 12 months), Child (13 months thru 12 years), Adolescent (13 years thru 17 years), Adult (18 years thru 65 years), Geriatric (66+ years).
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes and/or carrying up to 40 pounds, or requiring walking or standing to a significant degree (about six [6] hours a day).
  • Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscles involved.
  • Category B – MAY have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years plus experience in hospital pharmacy practice with proven competency in sterile compounding and/or medication history collection.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Supports the medication dispensing practice through accurate preparation of doses, delivery of medications via computerized tube system or hand delivered as needed, maintenance of Pyxis stock, CII Safe, and processes discharges and transfers.
  • Performs stock billing functions.
  • Assures that medication stock is in date and not deteriorated through monthly assigned checks. Repackages medications supporting the unit dose systems.
  • Assists with monthly cleaning and disinfecting pharmacy areas, such as sterile compounding room per established procedure.
  • Works in an efficient and organized manner, complying with FH policies and procedures.
  • Performs all duties of Pharmacy Technician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Participates in continuous process improvement initiatives.

  • Audits on expirations, refills, etc.
  • Cabinet Optimization with Par Level Adjustments
  • Trainer for new techs and pharmacists
  • Development and enforcement of standard work
  • ASHP Certification for USP <797>/<800>
  • Qualified trainer and preceptor
  • Certifier for Annual and New Hire Competencies

  • Support remediation efforts for clean room deviations
  • Development and enforcement of standard work
  • Trained as a backup buyer/inventory controller.
  • Understands how to modify and uphold PAR levels for inventory maintenance.
  • Helps to oversee expirations and documentation in the central/JRM pharmacy
  • Helps resolve issues with inventory and drug shortages
  • Expert on the use and control of the CII Safe
  • Qualified to support in discrepancy resolution when escalated
  • Can perform monthly/biennial inventory for CDS
  • Can perform CDS audits
  • Closed Loop Monitoring
  • Transaction Audits for pharmacy/nursing/anesthesia
  • Understands how to use RX Auditor and Metrics
