Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience as an outpatient pharmacy technician preferred.
  • Able to learn technical tasks including software computer applications and keyboarding.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Performs without assistance; recognized as a resource to others; able to translate complex nuances to others; able to improve processes; focus on broad issues.
  • No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
  • Current registration with the MN Board of Pharmacy, or eligible for registration.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB preferred) required within 12 months of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient.
  • Accurately and efficiently processes prescriptions.
  • Interacts with patients and managed care plans to authorize prescription coverage.
  • Assembles prescriptions and follows proper procedures to prepare and dispense medications.
  • Accurately and efficiently completes patient purchase transactions utilizing point of sale systems.
  • Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications.
  • Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes.
  • Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.
