About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the technician performs medication preparation and distribution, IV admixture compounding, drug inventory control, charge entry, and other technical support activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Pharmacy Technician permit by Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy required (JCMH will provide training program for permit application).
  • Pharmacy math assessment of 80% or greater required.
  • Keyboarding skills of 30 wpm required.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Previous work history which demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is essential.
  • Near visual & hearing acuity required to perform essential duties of position.

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital or retail pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Assists chemotherapy pharmacist with hazardous drug compounding upon completion of specific training program (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Utilize pharmaceutical knowledge, judgement, and decision-making skills to assist the pharmacist. Provide appropriate triaging to the proper level of intervention.
  • Accurately prepare Employee, Hospice, and Worker’s Compensation medications for dispensing and correctly label prescriptions with pharmacist verification.
  • Demonstrate accurate and thorough floor stock replacement to ancillary departments.
  • Accurately process debits and credits in pharmacy computer system.
  • Interpret patient refill lists. Distribute appropriate medication and correct quantity in patient drawer and remove discontinued or unnecessary medications.
  • Exchange medication carts timely and thoroughly.
  • Restock medication bins as needed and document replacement stock on electronic want book.
  • Follow appropriate policy and procedure for distribution of controlled substances.
  • Demonstrate ability to conduct Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) activities as needed including bar-coding, unit dose preparation, and scanning related issues.
  • Perform sterile IV admixture compounding utilizing aseptic technique. Competency is documented by satisfactory annual admixture review.
  • Prepare hyperalimentation solutions with corresponding calculations. Understand appropriate techniques and procedures.
  • Assists chemotherapy pharmacist with hazardous drug compounding upon completion of specific training program (if applicable). Competency is assessed annually.
  • Maintain IV clean room according to policy and restock daily with appropriate inventory and supplies.
  • Prepare non-sterile compounds utilizing appropriate technique. Competency is assessed annually.
  • Inspect medication floor stock within the pharmacy and ancillary departments for expiration dates and product integrity. Replace medications and/or label products appropriately.
  • Assist pharmacist with CDS reconciliation as needed.
  • Perform record maintenance and filing.
  • Independently utilize unstructured time for clerical responsibilities, cleaning, organizing, and other value-added activities.
  • Assist in orientation and education of departmental personnel.
  • Attend and participate in pharmacy department and technician meetings.
  • Observe courtesy standards through pleasant verbal communication, facial expressions and tone of voice when interacting with colleagues and visitors.
  • Demonstrate desired telephone skill by answering promptly and politely. Handle all calls with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Verbally support teammates, department, and Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
  • Accept responsibility and accountability for own actions. Handle problems between self and peers in a professional manner.
  • Document written communication that is neat, legible, accurate, and respectful.
