About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Tech procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. This role involves maintaining an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. The technician must maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. They will properly operate, troubleshoot, monitor, and clean departmental automation and equipment, ensuring pharmacist product verification and facilitating the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate records and patient profiles, responding to customer needs by answering phone calls and triaging requests, and understanding time management for timely and safe patient care. The role includes assisting with operational support functions, minor housekeeping, and department cleaning to maintain the work area. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are also part of the duties. The technician must maintain competency and follow departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities to stay current with trends and practices, completing all required training and competency assessments, and attending educational in-services are expected. The role may involve assisting in the orientation and training of new personnel and serving as a resource for less experienced staff. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

  • Implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.
  • Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards.
  • Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.
  • Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
