About The Position

The Pharmacy Tech in Training Program is a full-time, paid training opportunity that teaches the information required to practice as a Pharmacy Tech through various teaching methods and on-the-job training. Duties include assisting the pharmacist, preparing medications, stocking Omnicells, and performing billing functions. After completing the program, the Pharmacy Tech will transfer to a Pharmacy Tech position in the acute care setting.

Requirements

Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), or an applicable certification exemption as specified in the posting.
Certified Pharmacy Technician within 2 years of license issue date in Illinois, unless exempt/not required as a student pharmacist or if licensed before 1/1/2008.

Responsibilities

Successfully complete the Pharmacy Tech University Program according to the schedule and timeline.
Sit for the certification exam.
Accurately fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists.
Enter and process new prescriptions and refills.
Accurately and promptly fill medication orders, including new or lost doses, floor stock replacement items, unit and dose cart, and outpatient and take-home prescriptions.
Perform billing functions, including patient charging and crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging through manual computer entry or a bar code reader.
Perform miscellaneous non-sterile compounding.
Inspect assigned nursing units and pharmacy areas monthly for expired or otherwise unusable drugs, and ensure proper storage and accurate inventory.
Prepare IV products using aseptic technique and apply proper labeling.
Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions and provide pertinent laboratory information to the pharmacist when assigned.
Prepare batch IV products to support patient care needs, using the batch compounder as appropriate.
Prepare and deliver enteral nutritional supplements to patient care areas, and maintain enteral records and billing functions.
Provide services to Operating Room staff from the OR medication room.
Refer customers' calls to a pharmacist when appropriate.
Restock and replace trays and kits used throughout the facility.
Learn the roles and requirements needed to become a certified pharmacy technician ready to practice in a pharmacy setting.
Work with a preceptor to perform all department responsibilities.
Complete mandatory training and competency modules.
Receive constructive feedback based on performance and behavior.
