About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician 3 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation, and distribution of medications for patient administration. The Technician 3 functions in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. All above assigned activities are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist. The Technician 3 is responsible for the interviewing, onboarding, and/or orienting new or current staff on the daily duties and operations of the pharmacy. This role also involves serving as a mentor and developing role models for technical staff, educating staff on process improvement and safety initiatives, and compliance with Technician Ladder assignments.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) State of Ohio CPhT license (Required)
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (Required)
  • Understanding of metric system and basic math concepts. (Required proficiency)
  • Good communication skills are essential. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of personal computer, calculator, facsimile machines. (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program. (Preferred)
  • Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in a comparable hospital or community setting (Preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacy computer systems, TPN compounders, and automated dispensing cabinets. (Preferred proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Accurate preparation of patient medications including non-sterile products, sterile products (including chemotherapy and TPN).
  • Accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications.
  • Inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock.
  • Orients and trains new staff.
  • Educate staff on process improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Serve as a mentor and develop role models for technical staff.
  • Compliance with Technician Ladder assignments.
  • Utilizes pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal, and accurately prepares dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
  • Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks.
  • Packaging and selling dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Inventory management including par levels, order review and submission, returns processing, recall management, and outdates process oversite.
  • Provides direction to technician staff on day to day operations and performs extensive trainer duties with new hires and/or technician trainees.
  • Extensive buyer duties including purchasing, invoice processing, cost transferring, and specialized ordering.
  • Support medication history collection process for ED and inpatient units utilizing appropriate sources and communication.
  • Communicate effectively with patients during the interview and accurately record the medication history.
  • Maintain open communication with nurses, patient care technicians, practitioners, and other personnel in the hospital to report important findings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
