Make your tomorrow with us. The Pharmacy Technician II supports pharmacists in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care across various Carilion Clinic settings. This role involves obtaining accurate medication histories from patients in the fast-paced Emergency Department, entering and updating data into the computer system, using automated medication dispensing equipment, and assisting and supporting pharmacists in the pharmaceutical care of our patients.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certification relevant to work area is required within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be able to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications and focused on attention to detail/accuracy.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Requires knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard.
  • Must be able to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment.
  • Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous pharmacy work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining accurate medication histories from patients in the fast-paced Emergency Department.
  • Entering and updating data into the computer system.
  • Using automated medication dispensing equipment.
  • Assisting and supporting pharmacists in the pharmaceutical care of our patients.
  • Review and update the patient's medication records for pharmacist review and physician ordering.
  • Maintains accurate documentation.
  • Uses Automated Medication Dispensing Equipment to stock medications in the Emergency Department, maintain accurate inventory levels, and assist nursing in the removal and reconciliation of medication discrepancies.
  • Maintains pharmacy records for regulatory compliance.
  • Supports medication safety committees and reporting systems.
  • Support medication access and affordability through patient advocacy, financial coordination, and assistance program facilitation.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery, accurate documentation, and high-quality patient service.
