About The Position

The Pharmacy Supervisor is a pharmacist leadership role that bridges pharmacy operations and people leadership. The supervisor champions professional development, supports scheduling and workforce initiatives, mentors frontline staff, and helps drive consistency, quality, and continuous improvement across the pharmacy team.

Working closely with the decentralized pharmacist supervisor and clinical pharmacy manager, the role helps maintain adequate staffing for inpatient pharmacy services. The supervisor oversees or participates in medication preparation and delivery, and supports medication storage that is secure and appropriate for stability and workflow. The role also maintains departmental quality and safety and assists with developing policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience in the discipline, or 3 years of experience in the discipline, or a master’s degree with no experience.
• Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a pharmacist in Iowa.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the decentralized pharmacist supervisor and clinical pharmacy manager to ensure adequate staffing for inpatient pharmacy services.
• Complete scheduling and participate in hiring, training, and supervising pharmacy staff within the main pharmacy, IV room, and satellite pharmacy.
• Oversee and/or participate in ensuring medications are prepared and delivered to care areas in a timely manner.
• Ensure medications are stored securely and appropriately for stability and effective workflow.
• Maintain departmental quality and safety by completing quality control checks, identifying and reporting medication errors and near misses, identifying process improvements, and ensuring appropriate documentation.
• Assist the Clinical Pharmacy Manager with developing policies and procedures.
• Champion professional development, support workforce initiatives, and mentor frontline staff.
