About The Position

The Pharmacy Supervisor is a licensed professional responsible for providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services to Option Care patients in accordance with company policies, professional standards, and regulatory entities. This role involves coordinating patient services with nursing, delivery, and reimbursement departments, and at an elementary level, managing the purchasing, control, and security of drug products and medical supplies.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Current, active Pharmacy license as granted by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a clean room or infusion pharmacy setting OR 2 years of experience and one of the following: (a) knowledge of non-sterile compounding, and MTM (b) completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Residency Program, or (c) equivalent experience as approved by the VP of Pharmacy and/or SVP of Clinical Services.
  • Access to a reliable means of transportation which will enable the incumbents to make home visits to treat/attend to their patients. If such means of transportation would include a personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license and a proof of insurance would be required.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Basic level skill in Microsoft Word.
  • Basic level skill in Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-graduate program in clinical pharmacy service.
  • Required certification from the Board in Nutrition Support Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy or other clinical pharmacy practice area.
  • At least 1 year of experience managing inventory and logistics.
  • Active member of a state or national professional organization.
  • At least 3 years of experience compounding sterile products and managing complex infusion patients.
  • At least 1 year of experience overseeing purchasing and inventory process of all pharmaceutical and related substances and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers and manages appropriate patient care.
  • Determines suitability of patients for home care.
  • Assesses patients' suitability for home care in accordance with Option Care policies.
  • Directs the daily activities of the pharmacy department to prioritize the delivery of pharmaceutical care.
  • Arranges work activities to meet the pharmaceutical-care needs of patients.
  • Oversees state and federal regulatory requirements for operating an alternate site pharmacy.
  • May act as the pharmacist in charge per state regulation.
  • Assists the director of pharmacy with ensuring current and valid state and federal pharmacy and controlled substance licensure requirements.
  • Ensures all appropriate staff are trained to effectively use computers and admixture devices, observing legal and ethical guidelines for safeguarding patient and proprietary information.
  • Provides support to sales professionals and general manager by speaking knowledgeably of Option Care's scope of services.
  • Meets with managed care organizations and other accounts to facilitate education regarding available services.
  • Oversees the purchase, management, and security of all medications, pumps, and medical supplies in accordance with Option Care policies and formulary guidelines.
  • Designs, recommends, monitors, and evaluates patient-specific pharmacy care plans for the pharmacotherapy of home care patients.
  • Modifies pharmacy care plans based on evaluation of monitoring data and other pertinent patient-specific information.
  • Competent in use of pharmacokinetic principles and formulas.
  • Competent in assessing patient laboratory values.
  • Ensures medications are prepared and dispensed using appropriate techniques and following Option Care's policies and procedures.
  • Ensures equipment is accurately calibrated.
  • Provides in-service education to physicians, nurses, pharmacy technicians, and other practitioners on home care pharmacy-related issues.
  • Designs effective educational programs for physicians, nurses, pharmacy technicians, and other practitioners on home care pharmacy-related issues.
  • Manages and utilizes pharmacy staff and supports personnel effectively.
  • Prioritizes workload and organizes workflow, taking into account available resources.
  • Coordinates and participates in on-call responsibilities of the pharmacy department.
