PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. This role performs duties of a staff pharmacist as required, establishes and maintains clinical knowledge or practice that supports the needs of the ministry, and instructs and precepts pharmacy students as assigned. The resident will develop and perform basic patient assessments, act as a liaison between nursing services, pharmacy services, and medical staff in developing, implementing, and maintaining clinical pharmacy programs. They will successfully complete required rotational and longitudinal rotations, choosing elective rotations to complete under the guidance of residency preceptors. Additionally, the resident will help recruit at the ASHP Midyear Conference for upcoming classes of new residents and participate in other recruiting opportunities as requested. Active participation on committees relating to areas of clinical practice expertise and/or interest area is expected. The resident will complete a residency project as approved by residency program preceptors, with project results presented at their discretion. Other duties within the scope of practice may be assigned by the supervisor. The role requires adherence to all hospital and facilities policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, including the Department of Pharmacy Policies and Procedure manual for residents and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Mercy Health Care Services.
