Under the direct supervision of the (practice) preceptor, the resident participates in a well structured rotational program which encompasses the various aspects of a general or specialized pharmacy practice. Objectives of the residency program are to develop highly specialized practice skills which go beyond those required for licensure. Also develop the knowledge, attributes, and skills to provide pharmaceutical care to patients, with a focus on outcomes, all while embracing aspects of the medication process. Becomes knowledgeable about the steps of the medication process including proficiency in computer transcription of medication orders and an ability to identify, resolve and/or prevent medication related problems. Receives instruction and becomes proficient at daily patient profile review to assess, monitor and recommend appropriate drug therapy. Maintains professional growth by participating in pharmacy educational programs and professional organizations and activities related to current trends, practices, and developments. Develops practice management skills and an understanding of the role of the pharmacist as a leader with a commitment to lifelong learning. Meets departmental professional development requirements and expectations. Participates in activities related to pharmacy staff development, including continuing education and student pharmacy teaching/training activities. Provides in-services to medical teams while participating in team rounding. Performs other related duties as required.
