About The Position

The Pharmacy Practice Lab Facilitator (PPLF) is responsible for providing students with the knowledge, skills, and communication techniques required to meet course objectives within pharmacy practice simulation labs. The PPLF will instruct, supervise, and assess students in a simulated pharmacy practice environment. The PPLF provides vital education, support, assessment, and feedback to students applying knowledge and skills to simulated cases and scenarios. Assignments are dependent upon the needs of the program each semester. The pharmacy practice simulation laboratory integrates the topics from the Drugs and Disease course sequence and includes physical assessment, drug utilization review, self-care interventions, and patient counseling activities.

Requirements

  • Unencumbered pharmacy licensure and registration in New York State
  • Minimum of 1-year experience as a pharmacist
  • Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in general areas of pharmacy practice.
  • Advanced knowledge of pharmacy law.
  • Excellent patient-centered and interprofessional communication skills.
  • High level of comfort with technology.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with culturally diverse populations within an organization.
  • A strong commitment to positively impact future pharmacists.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating, assisting, assessing, and mentoring Doctor of Pharmacy students in a simulated pharmacy laboratory environment.
  • Teaching and assessing students ability to utilize the Pharmacist Patient Care Process to evaluate medication orders, make interventions, interact with prescribers, and educate patients on prescription and nonprescription medications.
  • Assessing student performance and providing formative and summative feedback.
  • Demonstrating advanced knowledge of the practice of pharmacy in various professional settings.
  • Adhering to the mission, vision, and philosophy of the College and Department of Pharmacy Practice in relation to the planning and delivery of pharmacy education.
