About The Position

The Pharmacy Medication Access Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the health system’s centralized medication access function, accountable for the performance, scalability, and sustainability of medication authorization, prescription renewal, and patient financial assistance services. This role ensures timely, compliant, and equitable access to therapy by navigating complex payer, coverage, and affordability barriers across a diverse, fast paced care environment. Operating as a leader of leaders, the Pharmacy Medication Access Manager directs a multi layered medication access organization through layered leadership, establishing strategy and performance expectations for high volume, complex access workflows. The role optimizes technology and process design, establishes standards of practice, and ensures consistent execution through management leadership to drive operational excellence and alignment with organizational goals. The position builds and sustains strong relationships with patients, providers, care teams, pharmacy and non pharmacy leaders, manufacturers, and payers, with a focus on customer experience and execution excellence. In addition to operational oversight, the Pharmacy Medication Access Manager develops leadership capability across the organization, fosters a highly engaged workforce, and leads continuous improvement and innovation initiatives to proactively address evolving access challenges. Through these efforts, the role positions medication access services as a critical enterprise capability supporting patient access to care, financial stewardship, and pharmacy growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years as a licensed pharmacist.
  • Minimum of two years of professional clinical pharmacy experience at a specialty pharmacy.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited health system pharmacy administration leadership residency and/or advanced degree is required.
  • B.S. Pharmacy or Pharm D degree from an ACPE certified school of pharmacy is required.
  • Advanced degree, Completion of an ASHP Ambulatory/Specialty residency , Specialty Pharmacy Certification and/or equivalent experience is required.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Wisconsin.
  • Demonstrates effective use of computers and software applications used to practice and communicate effectively.
  • Good problem solver with strong managerial skill necessary to both educate and supervise technical and other support staff.
  • Able to work effectively with others to provide safe and effective drug therapy.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well in a cross-functional team environment; including the ability to manage projects and deadlines, and to set and meet goals and priorities for self and others with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a sound work ethic.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Dependable in attendance and job performance.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong clinical background in specialty pharmacy focused disease states preferred.
  • Good understanding of limited distribution restrictions, specialty medication REMS program requirements, cold chain distribution and storage and medication delivery systems and management.
  • Capable of assuming responsibility for evaluating and monitoring drug therapy relative to the total needs/problems of the ambulatory care patient in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participation and membership in professional societies and organizations is desirable.
  • Active membership in the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW) is preferred.
  • Active membership in the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) and/or other national pharmacy organization memberships is preferred.
