Pharmacy IV Technician, Full-Time
About The Position
Sentara is hiring an Inpatient IV Pharmacy Technician at Martha Jefferson Hospital. This is a Full-Time position (40 hrs/wk) with a rotating shift, primarily days (6am-3pm), but may require occasional evening and overnight coverage. The role involves performing technician responsibilities for clinical pharmacy care delivery under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Tech II Clinical demonstrates advanced technical skills, ownership of the work area, and the ability to work independently in defined areas of pharmacy practice. They will assume responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced clinical job positions, participate in training new employees, and fill/deliver medications. The role also ensures adequate supplies, triages issues, uses appropriate systems for patient information, maintains quality assurance, operates pharmacy equipment, and participates in clinical initiatives to improve patient care. Training in an advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician job function is included, and other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
- Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
- CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB (Required)
- 2 Years Pharmacy Experience (Required)
Nice To Haves
- 1 Year IV or Sterile Compounding Experience (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner
- Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
- Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
- Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
- Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
- Participates in clinical initiatives to continuously improve patient care
- Participates in the training of new employees
- Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently defined areas of pharmacy practice competently
- Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced clinical job positions
