About The Position

Learn to provide the best patient experience by assisting the pharmacist and pharmacy team in accordance with state and federal regulations. Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Model and deliver a distinctive customer experience while learning pharmacy policies, procedures, and customer service practices needed to perform as a future pharmacist.

Work under a pharmacist’s supervision to assist with pharmacy practice, prescription processing, dispensing, and patient care services within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns. Support customer service, pharmacy operations, inventory management, and department upkeep. Complete required training and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.
• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and patients, offer assistance with products and services, resolve issues, and answer questions to support a positive customer experience.
• Model customer service best practices, including courteous interpersonal habits and proactive assistance, and develop strong customer relationships.
• Learn from store and pharmacy team members, field leadership, and customers or patients.
• Assist in pharmacy practice under pharmacist supervision and comply with state, federal, and company policies and the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform assigned duties under pharmacist supervision in accordance with Walgreens procedures for prescription entry, third-party processing, filling, and dispensing.
• Assist pharmacists and other healthcare providers with patient care and services within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns, including patient counseling and services such as blood pressure checks and medication therapy management.
• Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company policies and procedures concerning pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Follow the Walgreen Co. Good Faith Dispensing policy.
• Register related sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required.
• Help customers locate over-the-counter products, including accompanying them to the aisle when possible.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Assist with pharmacy inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Use knowledge of company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged prescription-drug goods.
• Help maintain the pharmacy department by ensuring adequate supplies and a clean, neat, and orderly condition and appearance.
• Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
• Complete required training and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including current news and developments.
