About The Position

This is a part-time casual (as needed) position at Grant Medical Center. The role involves assisting a licensed Pharmacist in performing various departmental functions under direct supervision. The intern will gain practical experience necessary for competent and effective functioning upon licensure. Responsibilities include obtaining, preparing, and labeling pharmacy products, reviewing and interpreting orders, producing billing and monitoring documentation, maintaining inventory, providing information to healthcare professionals and customers, submitting medication charge data, and potentially assisting in training technicians and other interns. As part of a High Reliability Organization (HRO), the role requires a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in pharmacy school (P1 in a 4-year program, or P1-P3 in a 6-year program).
  • Must have an intern license.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Registration with The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern.
  • Actively pursuing licensure as a Registered Pharmacist through completion of academic and/or post-graduate experience requirements.
  • For international pharmacy graduates: satisfactorily passed the FPGEE and the TSE or TOEFL-ibt (completed through the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy [NABP]).
  • All interns must have an active intern license prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, prepare, and label pharmacy products according to department policy for final distribution.
  • Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, review and interpret orders for pharmacy products needed for patient care, perform any necessary interventions, and process according to department policy and procedure.
  • Produce billing, monitoring, and usage documentation of pharmacy products for proper billing and inventory purposes.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of pharmacy products to enable efficient distribution.
  • Provide information via phone/in person to other healthcare professionals and/or customers.
  • Submit medication charge data to assure proper reimbursement.
  • May assist in training technicians, externs and interns in technical aspects of duties.
  • Participate in special projects when necessary.
  • Focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.
