About The Position

This is a part-time casual, variable shift position at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Interns must be enrolled in pharmacy school and possess an intern license. When school is in session, the expectation is to work every other weekend. When on break, full-time (or close to) hours are expected. Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the intern performs assigned departmental functions according to established procedures. Based on ability, experience, and performance, the intern will undertake increasingly judgmental activities of a pharmacist, in accordance with State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations. The intern gains practical experience necessary to function competently and effectively upon licensure.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Registration with The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern
• Actively pursuing licensure as a Registered Pharmacist through completion of academic and/or post-graduate experience requirements.
• Active enrollment in a College of Pharmacy, or for international pharmacy graduates, satisfactorily passed the FPGEE and the TSE or TOEFL-ibt (these are completed through the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy [NABP]).
• Must have an active intern license prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Obtain, prepare, and label pharmacy products according to department policy for final distribution.
• Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, review and interpret orders for pharmacy products needed for patient care, perform any necessary interventions, and process according to department policy and procedure.
• Produce billing, monitoring, and usage documentation of pharmacy products for proper billing and inventory purposes.
• Maintain sufficient inventory of pharmacy products to enable efficient distribution.
• Provide information via phone/in person to other healthcare professionals and/or customers.
• Submit medication charge data to assure proper reimbursement.
• May assist in training technicians, externs and interns in technical aspects of duties.
• Participate in special projects when necessary.
