About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern - Summer 2026 (Puerto Rico) position is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This role operates on a hybrid model, requiring associates to be in the office 1-2 days per week for collaboration, while also offering flexibility for remote work. The intern will be responsible for analyzing medication utilization, supporting the development of clinical tools, and contributing to initiatives that optimize pharmacy operations and improve patient outcomes. The anticipated end date for this internship is June 3, 2026.

Requirements

  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, and be available for the 2-month internship duration in a hybrid model.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
  • Completion of at least three (3) years of pharmacy studies is required.
  • Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of heart failure treatment guidelines (e.g., ACC/AHA/HFSA).
  • Experience with formulary management, utilization management, and adherence strategies.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret clinical and utilization data.
  • Experience with data analysis tools (Excel functions, basic SQL).
  • Familiarity with healthcare data systems, pharmacy claims, or utilization reports.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze medication utilization data related to heart failure (CHF) therapies to identify opportunities for clinical optimization and improved patient outcomes.
  • Review utilization, adherence trends, and cost data to identify therapeutic interchange opportunities among ACE inhibitors/ARBs/ARNIs, beta-blockers, MRAs, SGLT2 inhibitors, and diuretics.
  • Support the development of clinical tools and resources focused on CHF management, including new clinical tools and workflows, optimization of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT), reduction of inappropriate or suboptimal therapy, and consistent medication evaluation processes.
  • Conduct analysis of CHF medication utilization trends.
  • Assist in developing clinical interventions to improve heart failure outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical documentation and workflow tools for utilization management.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at reducing hospitalizations, readmissions, and disease progression.
