About The Position

The pharmacy intern will support the Medication Reconciliation Team (MRT) by conducting medication histories for newly admitted patients to ensure safe transitions of care. They will counsel patients on heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) medications, with a focus on inhaler and diuretic use. The intern will also educate patients on appropriate insulin administration and monitoring. Additional responsibilities include providing antimicrobial stewardship education for patients prescribed high-risk antimicrobials. The intern will document all interventions in the electronic medical record and collaborate with pharmacists and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care. Must learn and understand the basic principles and methods used in the department, always following established protocols. Recent college graduate or student enrolled in a related graduate or undergraduate degree program, preferably beyond a second semester junior.

Requirements

  • Registered as a full-time pharmacy student in an accredited College of Pharmacy in good standing.
  • Registered with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacy Intern License.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in performing new and varied work assignments, and be flexible with regard to work assignments.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word is required.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn Minitab.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
